Description

Bird's eye view of San Antonio

Augustus Koch. Bird's Eye View of the City of San Antonio Bexar County. 1873. [Madison]: [J.J. Stoner], 1873. 29.25" x 23.5" (sight), matted and framed to an overall size of 40.5" x 35.75". A lithographic print with original coloring showing a bird's eye view of the city. The San Antonio River dominates the view meandering diagonally across the frame, and Koch's painstaking attention for detail includes the shadows cast by buildings and trees. A reference key at bottom lists points of interest, including places of worship and schools. A scarce and desirable view; last auction record lists a sale price of $14,950 in 2001. Ex. Arader Galleries.

Condition:
Small area of dampstaining at top and at left is mentioned for accuracy; overall exceptionally clean and ideal for display.
