Description

Las Vegas Casino Chip: 1953 Wilbur Clark Desert Inn Chip. 4th issue, mustard with three dark blue inserts, Arodie mold (dice and arrowheads), rated R-9 on the rarity scale by Campiglia & Wells. Technically grading AV (average), it has a very pleasing appearance. On each side there is a diagonal line through the portrait which occurred in manufacture, visible only when viewing from just the right angle.

An example of this chip sold for $21,250 in our November 2014 auction (lot 44224) against a pre-sale estimate of $5000-$10,000. As will sometimes happen with auctions, a strong selling price will bring another example out of hiding, as is the case here.
