Virgil Earp and Tombstone Madam Emma Parker: Her September 14, 1881, City License for a "House of Ill Fame," Signed by Virgil on Verso. One of the outstanding items in this collection, the license itself is important and engaging. However, the "icing on the cake" is found on the back, a notation by Virgil Earp:Refused Payment

The license is stamped "cancelled," and an item in the September 28 "Tombstone Epitaph" notes that Emma's prosecution for "keeping a house of ill repute" would be continued under Judge Wells Spicer.
Virgil Earp's signatures are very rare, and it is especially desirable in this form. This document dates from barely a month before the O.K. Corral confrontation. Virgil was shot and severely wounded, presumably in retaliation, on December 28th as he walked from the Oriental Saloon to his room. 7.625" x 4.5", and in excellent condition.
