Description

Ulysses S. Grant Inaugural Ball Invitation, 8" x 10", March 4, 1873, with the original transmittal envelope. The invitation and envelope are addressed to Col. A. E. Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio. Jones served as commander of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, Ohio Volunteer Militia during the Civil War. On July 27, 1889, Col. Jones was brutally murdered. The envelope shows considerable wear and staining. The invitation has folds and residue of mounting tape, else near fine.
