Description

Three Texas Slave Documents. Interesting and rare documents related to slavery in Texas history. A two-page 1858 bill of sale records the sale of a young black boy named Gilbert who was sold "at the Court House door in the town of Greenville... for one thousand and eighty dollars." A second item, dated December 1862, documents the "hire of a negro man Billy and his wife Eliza and a negro man Tillman" for one year for $908. The last document, dated July 1862, records the $350 purchase of "a certain Slave Susan age 38 years old" by one Sarah G. Gillows. Letters show occasional age toning and ink burn, but are all in very good to fine condition.
