Description

R. Plummer, "See Who Voted For It. A Plain Statement of Facts." Broadside. One page, two columns, 11" x 17", Austin, December 22, 1857. During the Texas Revolution, Stuart Perry had used his brig, Good Hope, "in the employ of the Republic fifteen months, transporting troops and stores". The charter expired on June 1, 1837. Perry was never paid for the amount he was owed. In this broadside, R. Plummer declares to now be the sole owner of the Perry claim ("I became the purchaser - an innocent purchaser") and makes a claim against the late Republic of Texas "for a full and valid consideration", which was worth $38,000 in 1857. Plummer appeals to the Texas legislature to approve the payment: "I do think it was time I was paid." Light creases along folds include four small holes, but generally fine. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
