Description
Possible Early Confederate 12-Star Transitional Flag. Intriguing 45" x 30" cotton flag with twelve "puffy" stars in the right-side canton. There are nineteen red & white printed stripes. It is entirely hand-stitched and pieced together using three sections (two for the stripes and one for the canton). It is finished at top & bottom and hemmed along the left edge (there may have been a hem or sleeve along the right side at one time but, if so, it unraveled). The stars show on either side of the canton through cut-out holes, as is typical for the period. There are some minor holes in the canton and two areas of loss to the right corners. There is a cord or twine loop still present in the upper right corner. The colors remain bold and there is light overall aging. It gives every indication of being of the period.Auction Info
