Description

Maryland Soldier's Pocket New Testament. 3" x 4.75". Features a partially-printed form, dated October 31, 1862, from Thomas A France of the Baltimore Light Artillery asking that should he "die on the battle field or in Hospital . . . acquaint Mrs. Sarah Jane France my wife . . . of the fact, and where my remains may be found." With an additional signature by France on the rear board. France survived the war and was mustered out of the army on June 17, 1865. Blind stamped cloth over boards are worn; broken spine repaired with tape.
