German Immigration Document, Verein zum Schutze deutscher Einwanderer in Texas, Signed "Heinrich Meyer". Four integral pages, partially printed and written on pages one through three, docketed on page four, 8" x 13.25", October 7, 1846, Bremen, in German. The document is a contract between Heinrich Meyer and the Verein zum Schutze deutscher Einwanderer in Texas (Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas) for "Dreihundert und zwanzig acres" (three hundred and twenty) in Travis County, Texas. Meyer agreed to put at least fifteen acres in cultivation for three years. The document states that the Adelsverein will transport Meyer to Galveston for a cost of seventy guilders. Heinrich Meyer later anglicized his name to Henry and eventually settled in San Felipe, Texas. He is buried in the San Felipe de Austin Cemetery. The fourth page of the document is docketed, "Filed in the Court of Claims by L. Douglass Brown". The document is foxed and stained with weakness at the folds. Lower blank margin of second leaf excised.
