George Washington: Period Magazines. A summary of the individual items in this group is as follows: 1) "The Gentleman's Magazine" for August 1775 with accounts of Bunker Hill and the issuance of the "Declaration of Arms", 2) & 3) December 1783 and March 1784 issues of the "Universal Magazine" with Washington's message to Congress on his resignation and final orders to the American army, 4) & 5) December 1773 and January 1774 issues of the "Macaroni, Savoir Vivre and Theatrical Magazine" with news of the colonies and an account of the Boston Tea Party, 6) "The Gentleman's Magazine" for March 1777 reprints Washington's letter to Congress describing his crossing of the Delaware in a surprise attack on Trenton, 7) "The European Magazine and London Review" for August 1783 with Washington's circular letter resigning his commission and news of the peace treaty, 8) "The Westminster Magazine" for November 1781 reporting on the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown. Many of the signal events of the Revolutionary War are reported on in these pages. And, 9) "The Gentleman's Magazine" for December 1774 with accounts of the Declaration and Resolves issued by the Continental Congress (tear on last three pages).
