Abraham Lincoln: White House Funeral Admittance Card. Prior to the first public funeral held in Washington, D.C., Lincoln's body was displayed in the White House where a select group of guests could pay their respects in a dignified setting. Admission tickets were issued and remain a highly desirable and rare collector's item. This double-glazed example measures 5" x 3 ¼". The front is inscribed: "East./ Admit the Bearer to the/ Executive Mansion,/ On Wednesday, the/ 19th of April, 1865." The back side has a personalized inscription by the original owner: "This ticket of admission to the Executive Mansion was issued to me on the day of the funeral of Abraham Lincoln President of the U.S. who was murdered in Washington City. The services were held in the White House in the presence of Members of Congress & others. Sup[reme] Court & others [signed] M. S. Wilkinson".
