1858 Trans Atlantic Cable Broadside "Extra". 9" x 10 3/4" (sight) and overall 13 3/4" x 15 3/4" framed, dated August 17 (1858), fine condition. The piece is President Buchanan's response of congratulation by Queen Victoria on the completion of the laying of the cable, in part "The President cordially reciprocates the congratulations of Her Majesty the Queen, on the success of the great International enterprise accomplished by science, skill, and indomitable energies of the two Continents". A great extra pertaining to a monumental scientific success!
