Description

[Slavery]. Texas Slave Bill of Sale. One page, 7.75" x 10", Huntsville, April 6, 1860. The bill reads, in part: "B. W. Brown & William Calvert (equal owners of a Negro bought of me) the Sum of eleven Hundred Dollars for a Negro girl named Mary, twelve Years old of dark complexion which girl I warrant Sound in body and Mind and a Slave for life, and I also warrant and defend, and my heirs and assigns shall warrant and defend the title to Said Negro, against the lawful claims of all other persons whomsoever."

More Information: A short note below reads: "Liberty - Feb 1st 1862 Received of B.W. Brown five hundred and fifty dollars for my undivided half of the above named girl which I guarantee in every respect named in the above bill of sale. Wm. Calvert."
