Description

[Ranching]. Ledger of Cattle Sales. This ledger presumably belonged to Joseph S. Waldrom whose name appears on the front free endpaper and at the end of each transaction. Only the first ninety-eight pages of the 188 page book are used. The earliest sale recorded bears the date February 7, 1874, and spans the next few months, concluding on June 17, 1875. Curiously, the sales are not in chronological order. Each cow sold is recorded with its earmark, brand, and age. Up to seventy individuals are recorded per page. An intriguing inside look at the cattle industry during the mid-1870s. From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
