Description

[Lincoln Assassination]. George Meade's General Orders No. 15. One printed page, 4.5" x 6" (sight), announcing the death of President Abraham Lincoln. The order reads, in part: "The Major General Commanding announces to the Army that official intelligence has been received of the death, by assassination, of the President of the United States...An honest man, a noble patriot, a sagacious statesman has fallen! No greater loss, at this particular moment, could have befallen our country." Smoothed folds with light toning. Faint water staining along the right edge; two small, binding holes at left edge. Matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Lincoln featuring a facsimile signature to an overall size of 21.5" x 17".
