Four integral pages, 5" x 8", "Fort Phillip Kearney [Dakota Territory]," April 15, 1868, to George Pinckney regarding life in a western frontier post during the Indian Wars. Slight smudging of the ink. "...Indians and Wild game are plenty around the Post. The former causing us a great deal of trouble and the latter a good sight of fun: plenty of game...are to be had for the hunting: said hunting is accompanied with considerable danger for as the Indians are swarming around the Bluffs and Mountains awaiting a chance to shoot scalp and cut anything in the shape of a white man..." Folds and light toning. Else fine. With original transmittal envelope.
