Description
[Confederate States]. Confederate Army Quartermaster's Inventory. One partially-printed page, 10.5" x 8.25", Guinea Station [Virginia], April 9, 1863, giving a list of items received from commissary officer Major W[ells]. J. Hawks, including bacon, "salt beef," flour, rice, etc. Guinea Station is noted as the site of Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's death, just one month after this inventory was written. While he lay dying and delirious, Jackson issued his final orders and included in them Maj. Wells Hawks, saying: "Order A.P. Hill to prepare for action! Pass the infantry to the front rapidly!
