Description
[Bonnie Parker & Clyde Barrow]: Clyde's Personally-Owned Fishing Tackle Box. 14" x 6" x 6.5" metal tackle box manufactured by Kennedy Kits of Van Wert, Ohio (lock by Corbin). It contains eight wooden floats, two reels, a spool of fishing line or twine, three "washers", eight lead weights and eight brass swivel connectors. It also contains an artificial flower taken "From Bonnie Parker's Grave Dallas, Texas 1988". An attached auction house tag indicates "This tackle box was in the trunk of Clyde's car when he was killed. Accompanied by an affidavit signed by Frank Hamer, Jr. describing the box and listing the contents and the history of the box." That document is included in the lot. "This fishing tackle box was taken from the trunk of the 1934 Ford V-8 car used by Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker at the time of the shooting on May 23, 1934... Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker were known to fish and hunt squirrels in the river bottoms on the Trinity and Brazos Rivers when they were hiding out. There was an old colored woman on the Trinity who used to cook the catfish and squirrels, as well as an occasional chicken, and make cornbread for them. This information obtained by my father and others during the time they were tracking down Clyde and Bonnie."
