Spectacular Circus Menagerie Animal Broadside From 1834. When this consignment came in we were speechless! The broadside is in two pieces, and when combined measures an astounding 36" x 120". The broadside was printed by Hoffman & White, Albany NY. The piece is titled "Waring ,Tufts & Co's Menagerie. This establishment comprises the Largest and Best collection of Living Animals Ever Exhibited in the United States". The cost to see the animals was 25 cents for adults, and half that amount for children. According to the broadside the next exhibition of animals was to be in West Bridgewater, Mass. on May 15th, 1834. To be exhibited will be "Siam, the great India Elephant", Leopardess, Lioness, a Royal Bengal Tiger, a Russian Bear and an Arabian Pack Camel, among others. Also appearing will be "Jim Crow riding his Shetland Pony", who looks to be a small person in black face. At the bottom of the broadside it reads: "The Animals will be fed in the presence of the audience at 4 O'Clock P.M. Persons Are Required Not To Tear Or Deface This Bill". We have handled circus banners and posters in the past, but nothing as dramatic and graphic as this piece, and one that is so early! It is in remarkable condition just having some minor loss at the very top near "Menagerie". Each section is housed in custom plexiglass frames. This is certainly one of the rarest and most desirable circus related posters, or broadsides, to appear on the market in sometime.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
