Description

Revolutionary War: Broadside Poem Titled "American Taxation." Single printed sheet, 11" x 18.25"; printed in Hartford by Hudson and Goodwin. With subtitle, "Or the spirit Of Seventy-six, exemplified in a song written in the golden days which tried men's soul's." The poem was originally written in 1781, but was not published and printed until 1783 as a patriotic piece at the end of the Revolutionary War. Exceedingly scarce.

Printed in two columns, the author praises America's military leaders, calling George Washington "A second Alexander" and commenting on many events of the war.

Condition: Expertly laid down on an archival backing to the overall size of 12.25" x 18.75", reinforcing multiple tears in the bottom margin. Loss of paper at top right.
