Published by Allied Printing, featuring a photograph by Bob Adelman of CORE worker Mimi Feingold with local residents. The group have linked arms and are singing at St. Francisville, West Feliciana Parish in Los Angeles. The poster encourages the public to join CORE in order to obtain equality "In Employment, In Housing, In Schools, In Community."
The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) was founded in 1942 and played a key role during the Civil Rights Movement. In 1961, they organized the Freedom Riders, who were groups of white and black men and women who made bus trips through the South to protest segregation. Mimi Feingold was a sophomore at Swarthmore College at the time of her arrest. She was taken into custody in Jackson, Mississippi and spent almost four months at Parchman Penitentiary. After her release, she aided African-American voter registration in Louisiana from 1962-1966.
Condition: Flattened folds, with light chipping at edges. There is a small hole at the lower right corner on the black line under "CORE".
