Produced by the Committee to Defend Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners. A sketched portrait of Magee.
Magee was a witness at the trial for James McClain, held at Marin County courthouse on August 7, 1970. Soledad Brothers founder George Jackson with the aid of Angela Davis allegedly orchestrated a kidnapping in order to gain the release of George Jackson. During the assault on the courthouse, Judge Haley was kidnapped along with four other hostages. The four kidnappers and hostages piled into a rented van and attempted to escape. The police set up a roadblock, and the kidnappers and police exchanged fire. In the chaos, one of the hostages grabbed a gun and shot three of the kidnappers. Judge Haley was also killed, either by one of the kidnappers or by an errant shot by police. Magee was the sole abductor to survive. He would later plead guilty to aggravated kidnapping and was sentenced to life in prison.
Condition: Light foxing and soiling at the top right corner. There is toning along the edges, along with pinholes at the corners of the mount.
