[Samuel Bangs]. Gaspar Antonio Lopez Broadside Signed, Transmitting a Message from Former Secretary of State Raphael Peres Maldonado. One page, 12.25" x 17", Monterrey; February 9, 1822. Written in Spanish. Attractive broadside containing a resolution issued by the sovereign provisional governmental board of the empire, which Lopez communicates to the public. Lopez signs with his rubric. Additionally signed in full by Juan Antonio Padilla. Printed by noted printer Samuel Bangs. Flattened folds, with a few small holes at the center fold. Uneven toning throughout, with light soiling. Chipping at edges.

Gaspar López served as the commandant general of the Eastern Internal Provinces a few months after Agustín de Iturbide fought Spanish rule and proclaimed the new Mexican empire. Samuel Bangs ( circa 1798-1854) was the first printer in Texas and three Mexican states, and the first printer west of the Louisiana Purchase. His first imprint was issued as early as 1817. All proceeds to benefit educational programs at The Bryan Museum.
