Modern casing of brown, quarter-bound cloth over boards with brown leather spine featuring two raised bands and gilt lettering and an integral chemise. In Spanish, "an invaluable summary of the state of affairs in Coahuila and Texas at this time."(Streeter) Topics include the opening of more cemeteries due to an outbreak of measles and fever, the organization of a one hundred man militia around San Antonio due to attacks by Indians, and the settlement of 3,100 families from the United States through six colonization contracts and another 400 families from England. Smoothed fold at bottom right corner. Light stain at top left page fore edge. Adhesive staining on verso of page 9. A scarce piece of Texana. Fine.

Rafael Gonzales (1789-1857) was a soldier active in the Mexican Independence movement where he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel before being named governor of Coahuila y Tejas. The town of Gonzalez, Texas, is named for him.
