Description
1968 TOPPS #50 MAYS. Only an unforgiving critic would note that this ‘68 Mays is very slightly shifted to the left. Beyond that we doubt that any other charges could be leveled against this gem. It’s been graded PSA MINT 9, which clearly elevates it toward the pinnacle in the hobby. Then in his 17th season, his biography was limited to a single line -- "Willie is the all-time righthanded home run hitter". How blunt! We would be better rewarded to forego all the statistics, and advance the credible argument that this guy, in the context of all the game’s disciplines, was the best baseball player of all time. To be sure, the condition of this card is magnificent, but we should never forget that the springboard of its lofty value is the perfection that was Mays.
