Description

1942 ROSE BOWL GAME PROGRAM. There’s a determination in our fabric that refuses to submit. The annual Rose Bowl game had proceeded without interruptions since 1916, and across America, that game was a hallowed institution not to be compromised. On New Years Day 1942, as Pearl Harbor still smoldered in ruin, the Rose Bowl Game had to be celebrated. At the time, the Rose Bowl pitted the winner of the Pacific Coast Conference (later becoming the "Pace *") against the most worthy opponent outside the conference. In its only departure from tradition, this Rose Bowl Game was played on the campus of Duke University who hosted Oregon State. This surviving program depicts a non-affiliated player on the cover 303 wearing a patriotic "76." Moderate wear is evident at the spine, and the cover has a few inoffensive creases – ultimately VG/EX-EX. A very nice program from a uniquely staged Rose Bowl Game.
