[Republic of Texas]. Bill of Sale for One Share in Shackleford. One page, 7 7/8 x 10 inches, Shackleford; July 21, 1838. A bill of sale made out to Horatio Wright for one share of the town of Shackleford in Sabine County, Texas. In part:"Know all men by these presents: That we, Andrew D. Bateman [et al.] have this day sold to Horatio Wright one share in the town of Shackleford, containing six lots on the known plat of said town, viz: 44 for the sum of one hundred dollars." Signed by Bateman as "One of the Proprietors." On the verso, Wright transfers the share to a new owner "for values Received."
Condition: Age-toned with smoothed folds. Some edgewear, including chips and short tears, not affecting text. Light, scattered staining throughout. Minor ink bleed-through from verso; docketed on verso.
