Description
WWII: Set of Four "Honolulu Star-Bulletin" Newspaper Extras Reporting the Attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7–8, 1941. A remarkable and complete set of four original "Honolulu Star-Bulletin" extras chronicling, in real time, the devastating Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the event that propelled the United States into World War II. Issued between the morning of December 7, 1941, and the following day, these papers capture the unfolding chaos and national shock from the very heart of the tragedy. The first extra, issued shortly after the attack began at 7:55 a.m., bears the electrifying banner headline: "WAR! Oahu Bombed by Japanese Planes." The second extra grimly updates the toll: "Deaths Over 400 on Oahu, Latest Report." The third, reflecting the spiraling crisis, declares: "Martial Law Declared; Deaths Are Mounting." The fourth paper, dated Monday, December 8, 1941, and marked "1st Extra," reports the national response, its front page proclaiming: "Roosevelt Denounces ‘Treachery'; Calls for Knockout of Japan."
Together, these four editions form an extraordinary chronological record of one of America's darkest days-issued within hours of the attack and from the very city under siege. Original Honolulu editions are scarce, but a complete sequential set such as this is virtually unobtainable, offering a powerful contemporary perspective on the moment that changed world history.
Condition: Light, expected toning and minor surface soiling; overall, the four complete newspapers remain in exceptionally well-preserved condition and display beautifully as a group.
