Description

WWII: Historic Japanese Internment Poster. Original 22" x 14" cardboard WW II poster dated May 5, 1942 headlined: "...INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL PERSONS OF JAPANESE ANCESTRY Living in the Following Area..." This poster instructs Japanese-Americans residing on the West Coast to register and prepare for internment in camps for the remaining years of the war. This was a patently racist reaction to Japanese-Americans who were assumed to be disloyal to the United States during WWII and represents a mark of shame by the US Government during WW II towards the Japanese-Americans residing in the US.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, fear and suspicion toward Japanese Americans escalated rapidly in the United States. In February 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, authorizing the forced removal and incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast.

Condition: Excellent.
