WWII Battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) 48-Star Flag.

Cotton with sewn stripes and printed stars. Approximately 66 x 102-inches with zinc grommets. Marked by hand in ink on the hoist bunting "USS PENNSYLVANIA BB-38".

The USS Pennsylvania was a super-dreadnaught built for the U.S. Navy and commissioned in 1916. On the morning of December 7, 1941 she was in Dry Dock No. 1 at Pearl Harbor undergoing a refit. Her crew engaged the Japanese attackers and she escaped with only light damage. During the war she fought in the Aleutians and Makin Atoll actions, Marshalls and Marianas campaigns and actions around the Philippines. She has the distinction of being the last U.S. warship to be damaged in combat during the war. She survived the war only to be sunk as a target ship in Operation Crossroads at Bikini Atoll.

Condition: Old rectangular repair at the top of the canton affecting one star; a few scattered closed splits. Good condition.
