Description

Pearl Harbor Ship USS Hulbert (DD-342) 48-Star Flag.
Approximately 36 x 60-inches. Marked in ink on the obverse hoist "USS HULBERT-342". The Hulbert was a Clemson-class destroyer commissioned in October, 1920. On the morning of December 7, 1941 she was moored at the submarine base at Pearl Harbor. She is believed to be the first American ship to open fire during the attack. She shot down one Japanese aircraft and shared credit for a second aircraft. The Hulbert received two battle stars for her actions in WWII.

Condition: Printed stars; machine-sewn stripes. Brass grommets. Light staining otherwise very good condition.

This flag was formerly in the collection of Dr. Clarence Rungee, and is accompanied by his original museum inventory sheet with identifying information.
