Description
From the Collection of General Mark Clark: U.S. Army Four Star General's Flag. 4' x 6', made of silk with grosgrain satin trim with silver bullion fringe. This flag would have been used for formal occasions. Although slightly faded it is in excellent condition.After assuming the rank of Four Star General on March 10, 1945, General Clark accepted the surrender of the German forces in May of that year, while in command of all Allied forces. As Commander in Chief of US Forces Austria and while serving as deputy to the US Secretary of State, he attended attended negotiations for an Austrian treaty in London and Moscow. On May 12, 1952, Clark took command of the United Nations Forces and as a result of his status signed the armistice ending the Korean War on June 27, 1953. This flag would have accompanied General Clark on all of these highly important and historic events
