Description

D-Day Ticker Tape.
This rather lengthy tape was obtained by the consignor's uncle who was a legal "bookie" in London during WWII. He received news flashes on a daily business in conjunction with his business. The tape starts out: "948 AM War News- Official Communique-Under the command of General Eisenhower Allied Naval forces supported by strong air forces began landing Allied armies on the Northern coast of France." It announces that "The King will broadcast from Buckingham Palace later today." Then, "Supreme H Q Allied Expeditionary Force announce that Genl Montgomery is in command of the army group carrying out the assault." It reprints, in full, Eisenhower's pep talk to the forces about to embark for the assault. It then repeats the first communique. Fully intact with one small piece at the end torn off. Measures 1.25" across when fully rolled up. Very historic and the first example we have seen.
