D-Day Invasion: USS Ellyson (DD-454/DMS-19) 48-Star Flag.
4' x 6' cotton 48-star flag, two brass grommets, hoist stamped "USS Ellyson DD454" and "#4 x 6 Style A Fast Color". The Ellyson (1942-1954) was a Gleaves-class destroyer with an extensive service record that included escort duty, screening, minesweeping and anti-submarine warfare. She often operated in conjunction with the aircraft carrier Ranger. Most notably, on June 6th, she covered the ranger assault on Pointe du Hoc, later joining the invasion on southern France, before heading to Okinawa in January 1945. Sold together with Inventory Form from the Flag Heritage Foundation of Lexington, Massachusetts, indicating it was the 3rd Ellyson flag and the one used at Pointe du Hoc. Condition: Excellent with light overall aging.
