Description
Rare WWI Imperial German Pilot Honor Goblet.Approximately 8-inches tall, just over 3 ½-inches in diameter. Weight: 375.5 grams. Stamped with four proof marks on the lower rim: quarter moon, crown, 800 and Imperial eagle. The bottom has the impressed seal of the "Chef des Feldflugwesens". The goblet sits upon four silver-ball feet and features a motif of two eagles in aerial combat, the lower edge bears the motto: "Dem Sieger im Luftkampf" (The Victor in the Air Battle).
Pilots of the Imperial German Air Service who had successes in aerial combat were awarded with a special non-portable award known as the "Ehrenbecher für den Sieger im Luftkampfe" (Honor Goblet for the Victor in Air Combat). The total number of goblets awarded during WWI is thought to be around 2,411.
