U.S. Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword - Tiffany & Co New York 31 1/2" slightly curved blade with heavily worn etching exhibiting floral scroll, panoplies of arms and other military vignettes, etched "Tiffany & Co New York" at the front of the ricasso., brass guard shows a tree branch with the letters U. S., reverse ricasso stamped "P.D.L." Blade gray with dark areas, edge nicks and pitting at the tip. Hilt with a dark undisturbed patina, grip fish skin heavily worn with an area of wood missing under the pommel, wire probably replaced. The dry and flaking leather scabbard is solid but the seam is split from the center mount to the drag. Throat mount is engraved with a blank presentation shield and floral design, center mount with waving American flag and the drag with an eagle above classical motifs.
