Vintage Gadsen Flag/Continental Navy Jack, Circa 1876-1900.

Yellow cotton field with sewn script and snake, approximately 34 x 58-inches. Two brass rivets at each end of the hoist side. The original flag was named after Christopher Gadsen, a South Carolina delegate to the Continental Congress, and a Brigadier General in the Continental Army. He gave the flag to Commodore Esek Hopkins, commander-in-chief of the Continental Navy, who used it as his personal flag. The Continental Marines also used the flag.
