Description
Spanish-American War: Manila Bay Medal (Dewey Medal) Awarded to a Crewmember Aboard the USS Baltimore.46 mm, pinback, stamped GEORGE HEBERLING, BOATSWAIN'S MATE, 1st CLASS on the rim. The Act of Congress on June 3, 1898 authorized the presentation of a bronze commemorative medal for the officers and men who served on ships under Admiral Dewey's command during the Battle of Manilla Bay. The original order of approximately 1,800 medals was filled by Tiffany & Co. of New York. The Baltimore was one of seven ships eligible for the medal.
Condition: Moderate to heavy fraying of the ribbon, otherwise a sharp strike with nice detail.
