Spanish-American War: Cased West Indies Naval Campaign Medal (Sampson Medal) Awarded to a Crewman Serving on the USS Marblehead.

First issue, 38 mm, pinback, stamped DANIEL CONNELL, C.P. on the rim with a single engagement bar for Guantanamo. Reverse marked Cienfuegos May 11. The medal is housed in a fitted purple-velvet lined leather case. The medal is sold with a later (1933) liberty pass simply as an association piece. The USS Marblehead was a Montgomery-class cruiser commissioned in 1894. She served with distinction during the war with Spain and several of her crew were awarded Medals of Honor.

Condition: Ribbon very fragile and just holding (a new section of ribbon included), otherwise very good.
