Philippine Insurrection Flag: Variant with No Stars.
25" x 55" cotton Philippine insurrection flag. Looks to be hand stitched, with no stars as made. Comes with a cabinet card identified as Robert O. Van Horn with a Manila photographers imprint.

Van Horn was in Co. C., 12th U.S. Infantry in the Santiago de Cuba campaign of the Spanish American War. Upon return to the U.S. he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. and assigned to the 17th U.S. Infantry, and took part in the conflict of the Philippine Insurrection, 1899-1902. In 1903 he became governor of the Military District of Cattabato, P.I. During 1910-1914 he attended Army service schools in the U.S. and established a military training camp at Plattsburg, N.Y. from which officer's training camps were modeled during World War I. He was sent to France during World War I and became an assistant to the Chief of Aviation, A.E.F. and then as colonel took command of the 9th U.S. Infantry, A.E.F. and participated in the Meuse-Argonne offensives. He returned to the U.S. in 1919 to become an instructor in the General Service Schools. Van Horn was promoted to Brigadier General in 1933 and commanded the 8th Infantry Brigade and Fort McPherson, Ga. He retired from the Army in 1940 and died in 1941.

Condition: Cabinet card has light wear. Flag is faded with some loss on the fly and light stains.
