Large U.S. Mint Struck Skirmish Shooting Prize, Circa 1884-1888.

Bronze, 51 mm, suspended from a bronze pinback pendant captioned SKIRMISHING surmounted by crossed rifles. The obverse of the medal features a soldier wearing a Model 1881 dress helmet firing a rifle in the standing position with the caption DEPARTMENT SKIRMISH PRIZE. The reverse has a foliate border with space for engraving the winner's name. Marked U.S. MINT at the bottom. A handsome medallion with excellent detail. The consignor notes only a total of 22 examples were struck.

Condition: Excellent.
