Four National Guard of California Marksmanship Awards Identified to George F. Mannel, Circa 1893-94.
Includes: 1) Third Class shooting award for 2nd Artillery, "D" Battery, 33 x 40-mm, sterling, pinback. Engraved on the reverse "Geo. Mannel". Hammersmith & Field maker mark. 2) 1st Class shooting award for 2nd Artillery, "D" Battery. 33 x 61-mm. A lovely badge comprised of a red enamel "2" upon a field pack and crossed rifles within a wreath with an artillery shell suspended beneath captioned "1st Class 1894" beneath which is suspended a canteen with red enamel "D". An intricate and beautiful badge. 3) 1894 National Guard of California marksman badge with two "MARKSMAN" clasps. Numbered "1710" on the reverse and lightly engraved "G. F. Mannel." Shreve maker mark. 4) 1894 "ACTIVE SERVICE WEST OAKLAND" 2nd Artillery, "D" Battery badge on red silk ribbon. Bronze cannon pendant with "2" from which is suspended a bronze planchet measuring 29-mm.
