Description
Shoemaker's Apprentice Agreement. One page, 8.25" x 13.25", Pittgrove, August 27, 1812. An apprenticeship contract between Annias Nelson and Isaac Alderman, in full:"This Indenture made this twenty seventh day of August Eighteen hundred and twelve whitnesseth [sic] that Annius Nelson son of Annias Nelson of pittgrove hath bound himself aprentice Isaac Alderman of the same place to serve him as an apprentice the full firm of four years, four months & his secrity [sic] keep his lawfull command & obey at cards dice or another unlawful game he shall not play. He shall do no damage to his so master nor cause it to be done by others without giving his so master notice. He shall not commit fornication nor contract matrimony [illegible] but in all things behave himself as becomes a faithfull [sic] apprentice. And his master shal [sic] use his utmost endeavors to instruct and [illegible] aprentice to bee instructed in the art of shoemaking wich he now followeth. And shall procure for so aprentice sufficient meet, drink and aperl [sic], washing and lodging. Give him five months schooling and a set of shoemaker's tools for the true performance of this indenture". Signed by Nelson with "his mark" and Isaac Alderman, along with John Alderman and Joel Clevell.
Condition: Toned throughout with mail folds. Paper is fragile and paper loss has occurred where folds created weakness. Only a minimal amount of text is affected.
