Description
July 4, 1776 dated document- desirable for not only its rarity, but also its irony.
Wonderful American Revolutionary War Document. 6" x 3½" laid paper, bright crisp ink script. Directs the Selectmen of Wethersfield (Connecticut) to pay "Mr. Abel Andrufs" for a "gun & bayonet prized at three pounds, five shillings which is delivered to a Sergt in Capt. Chesterwell's Company Col. Chester's Reg't." The document is, remarkably, dated "Wethersfield July 4th 1776". Little did they know what was happening at that moment in Philadelphia. It is also worthy of note that the gun is accompanied by a bayonet, a great rarity for American troops during the early phase of the Revolution. Great little document.Auction Info
