Esek Hopkins: A Receipt Signed by the First Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Navy. Hopkins (1718-1802), First Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Navy and Commander of Rhode Island's military forces, started his career as a captain and privateer, and later undertook an expedition to attack British vessels off Virginia and the Carolinas. A.E.S.. 1 9. 2.5" x 6.25", Rhode Island, 1783., an order for funds from the Rhode Island treasury to be paid out, signed by a clerk. The note is dated and endorsed "E. Hopkins" on verso. Folds, Hopkins' signature slightly light, else very good.Auction Info
