Description

Very Rare, Finest Quality, Combination Bowie Knife and Percussion Single Shot Pistol by E. Turner, Circa 1840. 13½" overall with heavy 7¾" spear point blade with definitive median ridge, 1½" wide. Pistol with a .31 caliber 2 5/8" octagonal barrel signed "E. Turner" on the top flat, the piece otherwise totally unmarked. Breech and muzzle with scroll engraved decoration. Both hammers scroll engraved with the faces engraved with representations of animals with eyes and mouth. The top hammer is for ignition while the bottom hammer functions as the trigger, even though both hammers have percussion nipples. The grip, which is 7/8" thick, housing the blade tang and pistol mechanism, displays exquisitely scroll engraved brass bolsters, with even the screw heads engraved. Ivory plaque grips secured with brass pins. All metal with nice dark gray untouched patina, some scattered salt and peppering, and just a few tiny patches of very light pitting, minor. Hilt, including the ivory grips, perfect with nice patina. Overall really wonderful condition and an exceptional example of this most rare and highly desirable combination weapon, quite possibly of American manufacture.
