U.S. Model 1805 .54 Caliber Flintlock Pistol, Harpers Ferry 1807 The pistol has a round 10" .54 caliber, smoothbore barrel with under-rib and single ramrod pipe. The top of the barrel is stamped with an oval cartouche containing an eagle head/ P proof mark, followed by "US" in a second oval cartouche and the serial number "270". The lock plate has a flat face with beveled edges and a small tip at the end. The lock has a reinforced, flat hammer and integral iron pan. The rear of the lock plate is marked "Harpers Ferry / 1807" in three slight curved, vertical lines. A spread wing eagle and shield above the letters "US" is stamped on the lock plate in front of the hammer. All marking are sharp and clear. The lock has a tight crisp action. By all indications the gun appears to be in the original flint configuration. The barrel exhibits a smooth and light gray finish with remains of old yellow lacquer, minor pitting at the touch hole. The lock smooth and dark gray. Brass fittings display minor dents, scratches and areas of old lacquer. Stock shows evidence of well-done repairs at the wrist, sharp edges at the lock / side plate and scattered dents. This is a solid example of a scarce and very important primary U.S. martial handgun that is a key piece in any collection of U.S. Military small arms.Auction Info
