Description

Carved American Powder Horn C. 1825. 11" overall without spout plug. Brass butt cap decorated with concentric incised lines attached with small iron brads and utilizing a small brass suspension ring. Brass spout also decorated with incised lines, fastened in place with a transverse pin attached to a suspension ring along, with iron brads. Nicely carved wooden spout plug in the general configuration of a crown, with iron ring. Horn crudely carved with several images including flintlock pistol, early socket bayonet, spread wing eagle and rattlesnake. Also carved with a small representation of three masted sailing ship with a seabird at top and O'Driscoll in a riband at bottom. Horn with untouched patina and the brass mounts with dark untouched patina. Interesting and unusual American used horn possibly originally of English origin.
