Named Purple Heart, Photo Album, Diary and Effects of Sgt. John J. Weimann, Jr. 503rd Parachute Infantry.

John Weimann, Jr. enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1942 and went to Fort Benning in May, 1942 to begin parachute training. He was assigned to 2nd Platoon, Co. B of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He shipped out to Australia and participated in the Nadzab raid in New Guinea where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. The lot includes Weimann's detailed narrative description of his service time with dates, places, etc. Great for research. Included his cased Purple Heart, engraved on the reverse "John J. / Weimann / Jr." The case also contains his WWII Victory Medal. There are miscellaneous documents with the group, a large photograph album with personal photos of his service time (a few examples missing), newspaper clippings, his dog tags, a few common patches - shoulder rank, etc. (a couple missing), and various other memorabilia. There is a rather moth-eaten overseas cap (his initials inside) with infantry piping and a parachute infantry insignia sewn to the side; and a WWII steel helmet shell missing the straps. Included are two more recent American coffin flags and a WWII U.S. Air Corps Son in Service banner.

Condition: Generally everything is in very good condition with the exception of the overseas hat and helmet.
