Description

Very Fine M1865 Spencer Seven Shot Repeating Carbine, Caliber .50, #11483, Nicely Identified to the 1st U.S. Cavalry. Really an exceptional example. The barrel retains 95% of the original blue, the balance of the gun with 50% blue and case colors. Breech block with 90% brilliant case colors. Mechanically perfect, mint bore, fitted with a Stabler cut-off device. Wood also near perfect, just a few minor dents, crisp inspectors' marks. Marked in the wood forward of the butt plate tang "(L or E) TROOP 1st CAVALRY", also inspector's stamp C.G.C. The 1st U.S. Cavalry was heavily engaged against hostile Indians in Oregon and Arizona in the years following the Civil War when this gun was in service. Great Spencer with superb history.
